This problem is not going to beat me. I turned the throttle valve switch connector today to all three positions, but no luck. Tomorrow I'm going to trace and test the whole engine wiring harness and connectors to the ecu and verify all grounds. Its a long shot, but who knows.

The planets have aligned, bad mojo has lifted, and my high idle has finally gone away!

I replaced the 4-way and the two 3-way vacuum connectors along with the two black and blue check valves above the master cylinder. The hairline crack in one of the check valves must have been part of the problem because the idle dropped a couple hundred rpm.

I then replaced the rebuilt idle control unit, under 3 year warranty, with a replacement. That did it! What a relief to finally have this thing idling correctly.

I can now let my head heal from all the scratching!

I still have a new O2 sensor to swap out one of these days when the urge hits to turn a wrench but for now I'm leaving well enough alone.

450slcguy I wish I knew what to tell you. I sure hope you get yours running correctly too. It’s frustrating when you’ve thrown everything at it and it still won’t idle correctly. But there’s a great sense of accomplishment once you get it fixed and I got a feeling your almost there!

I want to thank all the members of this forum who contributed to my mechanical success. I haven’t worked on a car since I was in high school and my 30 year reunion was a couple years ago!

I’ll still be lurking on the forum and hopefully I can help someone with one of their problems in the future. Good luck and thanks again.
