fuel regulator on 450SL

I have a 450SL 1973 the fuel pump is working fine but it seems like it runs out of fuel or floods out after you crank it up. It runs then spits and backfires or it runs smooth then just cuts out. Looks like it has two fuel regulators on top of manifold. What are they for and what do they do?

What you are probably looking at are not regulators, but the fuel rack that directs fuel to the injectors. You can turn the key on (without actually starting the car) and then pull the fuel line carefully from the driver side fuel rack at the end near the firewall. If you have fuel there, do the same for the fuel line leaving the rack near the front end of the engine. This should tell you if you are delivering fuel from the pump to the injectors.

the 2 "regulators" are actually a fuel pressure regulator and a pulse damper. They are situated at the rear of the engine. They can be adjusted but if you need to adjust the pressure regulator its probably because something else is wrong. check the pressure in the rail by unplugging the cold start valve and sticking your fuel pressure gauge on the end of the hose originally connected to the CSV. with everything tightened up you should read 28 to 30 psi on the gauge with the engine running. if not you have a supply problem, pump, filter etc or the regulator is going out. when you switch off the pressure should stay up around 20 - 30 psi for a goodly few hours. Mine will happily hold overnight at 20psi plus with no problem.
cheers

You have individual lines to each injector from the fuel distributor . What info is it that you seek? All you need to do is pop the hood and take a look.

This is the difference between K-Jet (1976 - on) and D-Jet (1972 - 1975).
