Replacing Shiftknob
Greetings,
I would like to replace the stock shift knob with one made out of wood. I have been able to take the wood cover off. However, I am struggling with taking the shift knob off. Any help you can provide it would be appreciated. I do not have metric tools and I am struggling with finding the right wrench. What size do I need? To loosen the bolt, do I have to turn clockwise? Abe,
Did you remove the shift-gate? It's a lot easier to get at with the gate removed. And remember... righty tidy, and lefty lucy

Hi Eric
I am not sure if I know what the shift gate is. I unscrewed the black plastic plate through which the shift knob goes through. Obviously I could not remove the plate because of the shift knob was still attached. There is not much room to work with. How can I take the shift gate removed? Also, to remove the shift knob, do I have to do anything more than just removing the bolt at the bottom of the shift knob? I am still not sure about the direction of loosening the bolt, is it clock or counter close wise?

The black plastic plate is your gate. It's counter clock wise to loosen.

Thanks for the feedback. It requires a 15mm wrench to take the bolt off. I did manage to take the shift knob off. Unfortunately, the wooden one did not fit. I went through all of the trouble for nothing. The only good thing that came out of this experience was to learn more about another aspect of the 560SL.
