Spark plug cost?

How much should I expect to pay the mechanic for changing out my old black spark plugs with shiny new ones and adjusting the fuel injection so that the new ones don't get black?? :~)

THANKS!

An hour's labor and whatever he charges for plugs. I would not expect change from $120. But this is something that you can easily do yourself for around $15.

"...and adjusting the fuel injection so that the new ones don't get black??"

Well, that could cost anything from 1/2 hour labor to around $4,000 in parts and 12 hours labor..

It COULD be tweeking the idle mixture control...
or
it could be a vacuum leak (laborious to find sometimes)...
or
it could be a bad cold start valve...
or
it could be bad injector(s)...
or
it could be an intake manifold gasket(s)...
or
it could be a bad Warm-up Regulator...
or
it could be a bad fuel distributor...
or...

Not trying to scare you, but it's really true, it could be something simple...or not.

Most common symptom for Black plugs is that the fuel mixture too rich. But it could also be caused by lot's of low speed driving or the wrong plugs being used in the car.

Bosch super (not platinum) seem to work best for MB engines of that vintage.

Try NGK BP5ES plugs...proper heat range and not resistor. Bosch non-resistor are getting hard to find, and resistor plugs are not recommended.

Sorry for the delayed response--the car was ready about 3 hours after I dropped her off! The update is that the cost was $192, including parts, labor and tax.

The car was running SUPER rich. I brought it in and told the mechanic I thought it was a vacuum issue. (He said he tested it and didn't find a leak.) He added that the fuel delivery was way out of whack!

The WUR is most certainly off as well--chugs along when cold, almost dying--but runs GREAT when warm. (As this is not my primary car, at this point, I don't see much trouble in letting her idle for 3 minutes before taking off! Any other suggestions are welcomed, however!)

In all, as I was prepared for about 10 hours of labor chasing down a vacuum leak, I have to say, I'm pretty pleased--plus, I found a mechanic that (so far!) I like here in central Florida!!

Thanks to all for the suggestions/responses!!
