Wheel size / Speedometer calibration
Considering all the folks that have change wheel size and the electronic speedometer units in the newer SL's, does anyone know if they can be "reprogrammed" to correct for size changes.

There are electronic devices designed for this that can multiply or divide a frequency by a programmable factor.
Like this... http://www.abbott-tach.com/era.htm I thought that their use of DIP switches was pretty clever.

Isn't it the diameter of the tire that would affect the speed and odometer? So, if you put larger diameter wheels on, but use low profile tires, the overall diameter wouldn't necessarily change appreciably? Thus, the effect on the speedometer and odometer would be negligible?

Looks promising. As to using lower profile tires, I am not willing to give up the ride quality that comes with using lower profile tires. I can go to a larger rim size (17 or possibly 18) and use a larger diameter tire that still has the same side wall height to keep the same ability to absorb shocks as the 55 aspect 16's.

Mine are low profile. They definitely ride harder, but I don't really care. I don't usually take long trips in either of those two cars.

It wont help with recalibrating your speedo but I find this usefull for calculating tire size versus rim size on overall diameter and how much it will affect your speedo
