1985 380sl oil gage

I have a oil leak in my 1985 380sl ( it has 120,000 miles). When I started it up today I noticed that my oil gage needle kept going between 2 1/2 & 1 1/2...It has always stayed right on 3 before. I know that it is a little low on oil, but could being low, make the oil gage needle bounce back & fourth like that...Also, when you have an oil leak, whre is the most likely area it is coming from? Thanks!

An oil leak wouldn't cause the pressure change, but very low oil level could.

I'd check the oil & top up. If the pressure still varies as before, the best guess would be oil pressure sending unit.

As for the oil leak, it could be anywhere, without narrowing the location down a bit.

The engine.

Sorry...couldn't help it.

Top your oil up and recheck the gauge.
