Door strikers
After reading every thread about hard door closing and worn strikers, I had the impression that strikers were no longer available. Some folks went to the junk yard to buy strikers from the back doors of certain models. Since I now knew the cure for those hard closing doors, I emailed several salvage yards and found one with several W123's. He priced the strikers at $25 each and $12 to pull and ship. Sounded fair to me so I stepped up to bat.
Then I went searching for suppliers of some other items and found "new" strikers are in fact available. Several vendors wanted $25 each for new strikers and would ship free if you ordered $50 or more in parts. Then I found a pair of new ones on ebay being sold by a foreign car parts on-line store at $42 for the pair plus $8 ship. So now I have a used set at $62 when I could have had new for $50. Don't be too quick to assume that a part in no longer available and that you will have to settle for used from a salvage yard. I should have checked with Phil?? first. Lesson learned! |
My rule is to start at the dealer first and work from there. Use the OEM price as a benchmark.
Most parts searchers would be surprised. |
You are florida and you do not first check the junkyards? On top of that you do not post a "looking for" in the parts section? Grasshopper, you have much to learn....
