Talking Yet another parts car. 1977 350SLC (Euro) for $200!!

Picked up another parts car today for the whopping price of $200.00.

Here is the link to all the pictures below: http://s284.photobucket.com/albums/ll4/pwogaman/1977%20Mercedes%20350SLC/

It is missing the block and heads, but has just about everything else. While the body has rust that makes restoration not worth while, the Euro bumpers have none. I've picked over a few other parts and there are a few others I want. Johnhef, at whose house the car is now parked, and his neighbor also get picks on whatever they want, then I'm hauling it off to the pick and pull yard nearby - and I am going to do that by this Sunday. If Johnhef's neighbor wants the residual for his driveway, then he gets all the residual.

As seen by the pictures as of today, I have already removed: Euro bumpers with attached turn and fog lights, Euro light wiper motor and drives, a/c condenser, radiator, front valiance, power antenna, some wood trim, alternator, fuel injectors, Euro warning triangle (in case!).

Other things I intend to take are: exhaust manifold, more wood trim, instrument cluster, bundt cake wheels (which I will replace with the ones I really don't like that came on the 280SL (R107) so I can get it to the pick and pull), possibly the front sub-frame assemble, seat belt strap holders (held on the head rests), 350SLC badge, fuel pump, hood (without grill), doors and fender side molding, cold start valve, brake master cylinder and booster, dash, jack,

I am fairly certain that several of the things Johnhef and his neighbor will take (if not the entire residual) are: front seat belts, some of the chrome door trim pieces, some of the plastic seat chrome trim, differential (3.46:1) and shafts, transmission (automatic), driver's side lower dash panel, coolant tank, power steering pump, climate blower, tail lights, fuel distributor, wiper arms, multi-switch (wipers, turn signals, high beams).

As for the rest, I wonder what the going rate for scrap steel is now.

All things considered, it is a pretty good take! Here some picks:

The bumpers are worth at least that, the seats are in pretty decent shape also. Nice deal.

I've found those headrest seat belt holders very useful on an SL. They are not cheap.

It is Johnhef's. I'm sure he'll let you have it for the going rate of scrap aluminum.

god whose place is that? what a junkyard...

wheel chock is a head from a M272. its the result from when you dont replace the chain tensioner and run the engine with it too tight- the journals are part of the head and valve cover.

Hmmm- what would it be worth to you to pull a few random pieces off the interior and ship them? Namely, the interior glovebox liner, the chrome armrest trim on the driver's side door, the 2 knobs and four sliders (or heck, the front panel too) on the climate controls? Maybe the 2 underdash panels (driver and passenger side)

I think the only piece that will be available is the glove box liner. I don't know if that will make it worth the effort. Once I'm done totally chopping it and I do a bit of inventorying I'll have a better feel for what is available.

First, nice grab. I was all set to paypal him a deposit on it because I was hoping the back glass was good. The deal fell through when my suburban cracked its flywheel for the fourth time in 6 years.

Second, save that little bit of dashwood with the square hole. There should be a becker traffic radio adapter to go with it. It's of little value in that condition, but it's getting to be a rare piece of wood and I know a guy in south africa that would like one.

The seller mentioned someone else tried to get it but could not go through with it. Sorry about the flywheel.

The back glass has some delamination in it at the bottom, but you're welcome to it nevertheless. Logistics will be your concern. I'll pull it as carefully as time permits.

I've saved the square-holed dash wood, but it has some chunks missing. It looks as if someone broke it off. There is some sort of radio bolted in the trunk, but I haven't even begun to dig that out yet. Given what you've written I'd better do so carefully and not cut wires to it - it might just be that traffic radio you mentioned.

That thing is icky. Nice AMG SEC in the back there!

You should be able to get at least $200 for some of the interior parts.
