SL 600 Suspension Repair

I have a '98 SL 600 AMG with a Ren Tech Package. I have been noticing that the car has been riding increasingly stiff. My mechanic said that I need to replace the "Nitrogen Accumulator Balls" in the suspension. It's a fairly costly repair. Does anyone have any experience with this? The car only has 20K miles. From a non mechanical Mercedes Newbie it seems like this is not something that should need to be replaced. Does anyone have a suggestion of what this should cost?
Thanks!

I have some used ones on my Ebay sight. They are very easy to replace.
