Removing Console Wood at Shift Indicator?
Hi, I have a '84 380sl and want to remove the wood located where the shift indicator is located? How best to remove this wood section? The center console and ashtray wood is easy, but just not sure how to proceed. Procedure anyone? Thanks!

There are 2 screws exposed once you remove the center console. Remove those 2 screws then carefully lift the wood at the front about 1 inch. Then slide the wood back about 1/2" to disengage the rear pin. If you have a mirror switch like the 560SL show, you will have to remove the switch first so that the wood will slide back enough to disengage.
Removal of the switch can be difficult from the top but generally pushing backwards or forward with a blunt instrument will do it. I have also found that pushing the wood back firmly can dislodge the switch.

I actually posted a picture like this about 2 or three years ago when I asked the same question. The manual does not say anything about the mirror switch and I was stuck with it this far out until I figured it out.

Further to the detailed instructions from Roncallo, here is a pick of the underside showing the pivot pin at the back of the console.
1. Remove ash tray 2. Remove 2 screws from rear of ashtray holder 3. Remove ashtray holder. Pry out right side first and then disconnect electrical connector on left side. 4. Remove 2 screws from wood console 5. Remove wood by sliding to rear to disengage dowel. The Dowel is a little plastic peg that holds the console in place- Don't break the dowel!!
