Wipers suddenly stopping?

Hello all! I have a unusual problem. My wipers ('84 380sl) will suddenly stop, almost as if they are overheating. Later they work after several hours when car is shut off. The combi switch works fine in all functions, I have noticed the following - Wiper blades are new and really squeak . . . too much friction? They are also too long (18.75 inches on both sides) and the wiper arms are 16.5 inches and am wondering if the arms are the stock wiper arms? I also notice that the wiper arms do not easily return to the resting position when I turn off the wipers . . . any thoughts out there? Could wiper motor be overheating due to too much downward pressure on glass? Thanks!
