No spark
I have a 1980 450sl that has not run in about 2 years. Mercedes parts and expertise is scare in this area of eastern NC.
After fixing fuel pump problems, the car ran and drove. While driving the battery cable came loose the the whole car died. Upon reattaching the cable the car would not start and doesn't have spark at the spark plug or coil. I have replaced the ignition control unit with a rebuilt one. Still no spark. Voltage and ohms on coil terminals 1 & 15 check out according the specs in the manual. Transmitter resistance to the distributor terminals 7 &31 checks at 592 ohms. I can not get a 10 volt reading from the ICU or terminal 1 of the coil when cranking. Am I checking that right things? I am puzzled about what could have gone bad by the battery cable coming off while driving. All help will be greatly appreciated. |

No spark
Check the coil or buy a new one, I just bought one for my 450SL at Autozone for $ 9.90.
My car won't start either, so I have to purchase a ignition module myself. |

problem fixed
Installed new coil today and engine started right away. Seems to run smoother with new ICU also. Engine idles fast ( this problem existed before the coil problem)at about 1200 rpm and does not seem to be effected by adjusting the idle speed screw.
