instrument panel partial failure
I have an 1998 SL 500 with about 52,000 miles. Yesterday the water system light came on as well as the check engine light. Both the water temperature gauge and the gas consumption gauge are also not functioning. The engine temperature is normal and the water pump is working. My mechanic seems to think that we have a failure of the instrument panel and recommends replacement!!.
What do you think? Help will be most appreciated. Ray |

More Information Required
Tests Completed? What kind? On what?
(On what basis is the "Mechanic" justifying requiring a new IC ? Is He/She a "Plug and Play" Kinda Wrench Turner? Look at the Fingernails...) Have you priced an instrument cluster for your chassis? I think If t'were me there would be a "Second Opinion" from another "Tech".
