1986 560sl bowden cable

I don't have a reply per say, but, I have a question about my 1986 560sl bowden cable.

I have tried to adjust this device, but, no matter which direction I make the adjustment there is no evidence that anyting has changed inside the transmission.

Is it possible that cable is simply not properly attached to whatever inside the transmission.

How would one check this out?

Thanks for your replies.

Janal

If you disconnect it as the linkage and pull back the rubber bellows. If the cable has any kind of spring tension its connected if not you will have to pull the pan to connect it.

John:

Thanks for your reply. The cable has spring return pressure, so, it must be connected. So where does that leave me as I try to solve this problem?

I'm at a loss as to what to check next or what to replace.

Again, thanks for your response.

If you have the adjustment at the point where the cable is at rest with the throttle closed, and moves as soon as the throttle moves, that's as good as it gets.

Remind us, what problem are you trying to solve. Is it a high shift point?

Chuck:

The problem is the upshift (2d to 3rd) at 2200 rpm. I've checked the vacuum pressure at the tranny (19 in hg), replaced the modulator valve and adjusted the bowden pressure cable without any noticable change in the shift point.

I'm at a loss as to my next step in trying to solve this problem.

Any other suggestions will be appreciated

You've reached the limit of my knowledge, suggest you have a shop look at it.

What about the upshift from 2nd to 3rd at 2200 rpm.

Where does it shift at wide open throttle with kick down depressed. 1-2, 2-3, 3-4.

Gents:

Sorry for not answering or replying to your query, but, I have taken the car to a repair facility.

I will give a report after the 107 is picked up.
