It should be in the cloth bag along with the other emergency tools.

500 SL Convertible roof

It is much easier to manually remove your roof if the system does not have any fluid in it- otherwise it is difficult.

To manually remove the hardtop, you need the tool that has an allen wrench on one side and a ten mm on the other.

First, remove the two buttons that are behind the air deflectors in the front. You use the allen wrench to move the roof up on both driver and pass. side. Then, go to the trunk, remove a small 3"x1" tab near the trunk hinges. Place the ten mm tool on the slot that is red and slowly move the red colored tab. Loosen the driver's side, then go to the pass. side and loosen the red colored tab. Now go back to the driver's side and move it up again till you hear it click. Then do the other side.

With an assistant, lift the roof off.

If the canvas roof is on, you also have to use the 10 mm tool to move the hinge that on both sides- behind the driver and pass. seats in between the roll bar.

I can email you a 1992 500SL Owner's manual PDF- it tells it better than I have. Send me your email.
