Needing to know what this part is

Hi everyone,

I have a 1986 560sl and needing to know what the very small vent in the center on top of the dash is and what it is for? It lies flat and is maybe 3/4 to an inch across. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you all for your help!

It's the sensor for the climate control unit. It senses the temperature and makes adjustments for comfort.

Thank you jplinville

I appreciate your help! Just so I understand, this sensor goes hand in hand with the Push Button Control Module?

Side note, pretty car you have! Mine is white as well but a 1986 and I paid way too much for mine after reading your bio.

Yes, the air intake is the small aperture on the top of the dash, it leads through a tube to a sensor that detects temperature.

There is a small aspirator motor to draw air across the sensor.

Nows the time to buy. Probably will be even better in 4 months.
