Idle Issues.
Ok, well my mechanic said he was working on my car for a year, and well, he wasn't. First of all i didn't have the time to do this, but now i have to make time. My car has a rough idle, mostly in part because the vacuum system to the engine needs to do done over since someone tried doing it themself without a diagram. As well, I am missing the oxygen sensor which control the fuel air through the lambda control. If i install an o2 sensor by drilling into the exhaust, welding in a new bung, install the oxygen sensor and hook it up, would this work? Where is the oxygen sensor wire located as well for the hookup. Also, where is the lambda unit, because i can find every other one but this one. so i figured once i work out these bugs, i test the timing and do the adjustments since messing with the timing now isn't the right issue to start with.

It'd probably be worth the effort to get a cd manual for your car. Although they're a PIA, they sure beat nothing, especially when you're trying to replumb the vacuum system. BTW, What's the story on not having an oxygen sensor and the missing bung? |

I guess the idiot before me tried to just completely do the exhaust himself and thought it would be easy to get rid of the system itself and just straight up go to the muffler from the y pipe back. Where is the hookup wire running to the unit though, this i cannot figure out for some reason, considering I've figured plenty of other things out.

I can't look right now and am not positive, but I believe it's routed through a grommeted hole in the transmission tunnel.

OK, here's a thread concerning installing an O2 sensor and running wires on a car not originally equipped with the sensor. The pics in one post are of a 560 which should be the same as your 380. Maybe this will be helpful.

there's a purge valve on the charcoal canister in the engine compartment, is there anywhere where you can buy this part?

I'm not familiar with that component, but I'm sure any of the online vendors, in addition to the dealer, would have it available. It's amazing how few parts are no longer available. If you will sign up for the MB electronics parts catalog, free to US users, you can look up all the components for your car. It takes a bit of practice to learn how to use it, but very worthwhile. They'll ask for a credit card, but only to confirm your location. http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/ Great parts breakdowns and you can plug the MB part numbers you get from the epc into the search engines of the parts suppliers to aid in getting the correct parts. |
