timing chain and cam timing 500SL M119 eng

Hello,

I am setting up the cam timing on a 1990 500SL (double overhead cam engine). The factory CD is not clear on the initial line-up procedure for setting the four cams. Can anyone clearify this for me?

Thanks,

1. Position engine to 45° before ignition TDC at No. 1 cylinder by cranking engine at crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine using special tool 001 589 66 09 00.

2. It must be possible to pin all 4 camshafts with the pins (1), special tool 111 589 03 15 00, through the 6.5 mm dia. holes in the first camshaft bearing caps.

'88 560SL

Hi, Just bought an '88 560SL with 74,000 miles. Runs great! I want to keep it that way, so I'm going to do the timing chain thing. Can you please guide me thru the proceedure. Parts are easy to get, but I find the bottom guide is not usually replaced. Chain, tensioner, plastic guides & ? Thanks in advance for any advice. John B in So Utah

Hi,

I can give you a detailed description of adjusting cam timing- if you still need it.

Let me know!
