sl 500 power steering leak

just wondering if there is anything i can check on my power steering before i take to my mechanic.....i leak fluid and over winter storage it basically all leaked out, however in summer I may only top up say 3-4 times max. I read in here that there is a "resevoir gasket". is that something for DIY or not. I learning slowwwwwwwwwwwly to do some things, new to me, but enjoy trying. Any advice welcome.

Since you don't list the year of year SL it's hard to answer your question. Have you actually traced the fluid leak? Depending on the year, there is a small hose that leaks which is located under the reservoir that is hard too see. You might be lucky and get away with just tightening the hose clamps. That's where my 95 SL leaked from.

First check is the hose, and then the pump. You can buy a rebuild kit for the pump if necessary.
