Vaccum Port on intake manfold

On my 1981 380SL there is a large (1/2 inch) port on the right of the
intake manfold....abt 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch....it is covered with a
black cap....what is that for....Thanks Jim Blanton Texas

There is a rubber cap that goes over the port....otherwise you have
a large vaccum leak.....small fingers are a plus to replace. Jim

that big and draws vacuum and connected to nothing, you sure? Can you snap a picture?

That is curious. Is he implying that the vacuum ID orifice is that large or just the OD of the vacuum port casting?
