Smile New 87 560SL Purchase....

Just picked up this 1987 560SL. Lt gray with a gray interior. 123,000 miles. This car has no rust (not the midwest definition of no rust ). Colorado car since new. Engine and transmission are well maintained and run very smooth and strong. It has new Bilstein shocks, newer tires, and fresh brakes. W.O.W, it drives TIGHT compared to a few local cars I've test driven with 1/4 lock of steering play, (not cool), they had similar miles too!! Steering has absolutely no play in it at all on this one! Very fun to drive in this proper of running condition! Original paint with about 3 quarter sized spots of clear coat lift on one of the hood lines. Interior is in good condition, but not perfect. Original Becker. Dash has 5 pretty noticeable cracks. Driver seat has some cracking on the seat bottom. Otherwise very presentable and without wear.

First thing I did was rip those stupid chrome fender lips off. Whew. No rust underneath!! . It was just super dirty, paint had not been maintained very regularly, interior a little dirty. It got fully detailed this afternoon of course! But I could see the potential. What mattered to me was seeing the engine bay in top notch condition with absolutely no red flags at all! Cruise control works. A/C is still R12 and blows darrrn cold. Everything electrical functions. The original (I think?) Sekurit windshield.

So there really aren't many BADS to this car other than the hard top rear locking pin being stuck, found some useful articles on here about that trick. And the dash being cracked. But that's really all I can complain about.

Onto the GOODS in question:

Sounds like your diligence paid off. Congratulations. Looks like a nice car.
Nothing wrong with a well maintained 560 with that mileage.

Please share!

Not even I could pass up a car like that for $2,000.

How about a few pics of the black VW Beetle in the garage!?

What's the story on it anyway?!

Detailed the engine bay. A toothbrush, some Simple Green(tm), and hours of mindless work! Could be cleaner. But I'm satisfied.

There's nothing mindless about it. It's all about setting a goal, determining the means, applying the appropriate thought and labor, and accomplishing what you set out to do. Difficult and tedious yes, but not mindless at all. You did a nice job and should be proud of your accomplishment.
