1980 Inhibit Switch Wiring Schematic required.

Have customers 1980 450 on the rack. Need the wire schematic as the connector has disintegrated and one pin connector missing.

This would be for the connector wiring into the Inhibit Switch at the transmission shift lever.

Can any one point me to the color
schematic or have one to view somehow ?

Many thanks folks

regards

dk

Not much to look at.

The brown/yellow wire goes to the start/AC relay, and the brown wire goes to ground. Looks to me like the switch provides ground to the relay when the trans is in P or N and the relay then powers the solenoid.

I understand how the Inhibit wiring works through the a/c, starter relay to ground...The loom connector has totally disintegrated so the wires are dangling loose.

There was about 40% of the original connector body hanging on the loom. Removing the connector from the Inhibit Switch caused the rest of the plug body to fall apart. ( Cooked by the exhaust pipe running by it with no heat shield.)

I need to know what wire goes to what pin on the I/S. I have already soldered a another connector to the loom wire, so now I am ready to push the connectors on each pin on the switch. This is why I need to know pin #'s and wire colors.

Schematic anybody? Too old for AllData .

regards all

I don't think it matters, all you need is a connection to ground in P or N.

But here is the page from the ETM.

Angry Cranks even with no relays or switch !!!!!

Great...many thanks CT. Just what i was looking for...I knew someone would come through for me.

The inhibit switch also operates the reverse lamps too so we have more than just inhibit R D S and L . circuitry.

This Morning .......I am now finding the starter will crank the motor even with the inhibit switch disconnected AND the passengers side relays all pulled !

Somewhere the starter circuit is getting power from the ignition switch via another route.

I knew I shoudda not messed with this junky old machine...and what's with the two inches of water under the mats ? Ye gods...more work.

Probably hard-wired from somewhere in the 50 circuit on the ignition switch to 50 on the solenoid.

Thanks again Chuck.

Job done.

The Reverse lamps circuit was shorted at the bulb holder.
The PRN@L Inhibit Switch was toasted.
The Inhibit Connector Plug broken and apart.
Short or bridge somewhere in Ignition to Starter Solenoid wires.

Fix...

Install 40Amp Relay at the Coolant Bottle Mount. Broke into Starter Solenoid wire and run relay ground back to repaired Park/Neutral switch. Powered relay off the C105 block.

Now it only starts in P or N...and the Reverse lamps now work.

Thank you for the schematic again CT.
