SL500 instrument panel removal

I found removing the instrument panel in my 300D easy, easy too in my 420SEL.

The SL500 has me stumped; it won't budge.

What is the trick?

I have removed the panel underneath and reached up to push it forward to no avail.

In my 1991, the VDO is just a tight friction fit. Try using a credit card or similar piece of thin plastic and carefully run it around the perimeter between the VDO and the cowl to break the grip. If you are using the hook tools, be especially careful so as not to scratch or break the clear plastic lens.
