89' 560SL with less than 10K on it...value?

I have the chance to get a 9800 mile car here in CT.

What's a low mile R107 worth to the enthusiasts? I know its not a sellers market, boy, do I know that....and its mocha w/burgundy. Its actually an attractive color combo in person and the car's condition is like new....as one would expect at this mileage. It has new Michelins and supposedly needs nothing (but to be driven).

I appreciate the feedback. TIA I

Assuming it was stored in a climate controlled environment, at least 20k+

However, it will still probably require several dollars of work in that all the rubber components are shot or wlll shortly after you start driving it be shot. ie. tires, belts, hoses(coolant, vacuum, brake), subframe bushings, etc, etc.

That said, would I like to own one... you bet!

Low mileage cars can demand a premium. But there must be evidence of some service work done over the years to support the mileage claim. -CTH

The color combination got my attention. My '87 was mocha w/palomino colored interior. I never knew it also came w/burgandy too. I'd be tempted to run a check on the VIN to see what it shipped from the factory with. http://www.decodethis.com/Default.aspx

If everything checks out, that car in your part of the world could be in the 20-25K range, imo.

Pay per view site. The only plus is you can get reported damage info.

The data card is available from the Classic Center as long as the registered owner requests it. If the owner of this one is not willing to do it then forget it.
You can also get the data from the EPC which is also free.

Thanks !

I can get a VMI from my local dealer but its prolly a waste of time....but who knows?...it could of had an engine replaced at 100 miles. I can get you the VIN if you want to see what it has. I agree, I bet shocks and rubber bits are tired from non-use....no car fares well sitting most of the time for 20 years. That stuff would be worth doing for a car with this kind of mileage tho and no concern to 'run away'.

I was hoping/thinking it was a 20K+ car...even in todays talk, but the prices of them seem to be all over the place; even for nice ones. One 'could' buy a 2001 R129 Silver Arrow for about the same price with 'normally driven' miles....in contrast. This 9800 mile car sounds like it belongs in a collection...it might be a shame to pile miles on it, but maybe not. To each his own.

Here's another one that someone called me on yesterday. 1998 C43 with 37K miles; black/black bone stock. Seller wants like 20 grand for it...really? I said. I don't think someone would pay that much for it...does anyone have an opinion on its market value? Is there even a market for the early C43s? Sure, I can look on KBB etc but I'd like to hear and learn from MB people. Anyone interested? I'll start another post if I can go look at it and get more info.

well you gotta remember the 89 560 is the SL of choice of many. I favor the early years, but the 89 was at or near the pinical. I suspect you would pay north of 15K, but under 22. Low miles is not a huge factor, low mileage cars can have issues as well. How , why and where it was stored - a major factor
Why save em, for the next guy to save? Heck drive em. I take mine out every chance I get , put over 100 miles on her today, and yes it was in a concours a few weeks ago
good luck, any pictures??

rowdie, if you're saying that http://www.decodethis.com/Default.aspx , is a pay per view site, that's not correct. These guys apparently offer some fee based services, but the VIN Decode is Free.

Maybe I didn't do it correctly. I entered my '86 560SL VIN and all I received was links to carfax and such.

As a further comparative datapoint, take a look at oursl.com, specifically for other '89 560's. This link should take you there, and you'll see them priced from $7500 - $65,000 with several in the $19K to $26K range...

I can't figure out what you did. But if you go to the site, enter your VIN where indicated, and click on the button labeled 'DECODE!', it works, and it's free. I just ran my '99 again to be certain.

It could possibly be that their database doesn't go back as far as '86, but ISTM that you would get a message to that effect.
