** Seat Belt Retractor NOT Doing Its Job... **

My right-rear passenger seat belt won't retract. This is in a '76 450SLC, last 6 digits of the VIN are 011434. I've tried to run a metal coat hanger and fish-tape down the upper hole to see if there's something (like panel insulation) that broke loose to help "jam" the retractor, but no good came from that exercise.

Do I need to rip out the bench seat to get at the retractor? Or, is the retractor buried into some obscure location, never to be seen in the daylight, ever?

you can get to it if it is like my SL, you have to remove back seat side panel and the like. Most likey the mechanism is jammed with gunk or gone south, sometimes it is in the pathway that leads to the exit point.

I'll see if I can get into the area once I get cleared on the broken elbow...it hurts like a SOB when I apply any kind of pressure forward and upward using the left arm...
