Ok, saw the reference in the manual but still cannot see where it goes into the manifold. I am also wondering if it does not work when I get it from the manifold about how to trace any source leak detection being that there are alot of check valves and such. I have notice that someone has replaced the heater core and would that have depleted the system from the a/c vacuum canister?

Could the heater core replacement have anything to do with it. I do know the car has not run for a year and probably has bad gas that I will have to siphon out before trying to start it whenever MB can get me the ingition cylinder.

you may try at first to draw right from the manifold line, my guess is the little mity vac may not draw enough for the whole system, but I would start there, back of engine about in the middle ,coming up along firewall, should see it , connect before check valve. If that does not work , may have to T into actual line. I will look into that for you just in case

What else would I use if the mity vac does not work. How many times should I be pumping the mity vac?

OK the more I think about this the more I think you are going to have to find the lines if you can't charge the system and then use the key
Lets hope for the best.
My manuals ( dont go to your year ) indicate black and White ( 2 lines) go to the trunk. You should be able to remove passenger side kick panel and poke aroud in there to find them. One will open one will close . They work the lock too. Just disconnect both, block one and draw on the other. Black should be the unlock

I think it will be very difficult to evacuate the whole system with a Mityvac.

To pull a vacuum, maybe try the driver side where there is a small valve inside the door that operates the locking system (see it in the locking system diagram I posted earlier) or better still look for the actual tube that goes to the trunk - Probably under the trim on the passenger side, but not sure about that. There is probably a connector already, but if not, cut the plastic tubing and add a short piece of rubber tubing to suck on and eventually rejoin the tubing. According to the diagrams, that tube should only go to the gas cap door and the trunk.

By the way, to open the trunk with the key, you have to turn the key about 60deg and at the same time push the knob in. Hopefully you are doing that. If the lock is sticky, I would try the WD-40 regardless - it has worked for me before.

I am not certain that lack of vacuum should stop you from using key to open trunk, but perhaps it does?

Maybe jumpering the car off an external battery may be the way to go at least for a start! At least then you will have a vacuum, if it starts!

Beet me to it Ron - I started to reply, but then got side tracked for a while. Looks like we are both saying more or less the same thing.

BTW - If battery will take a charge, it could be done through cig lighter or perhaps there are other terminals under the hood on those battery-in-trunk mkodels?
