The time is in getting the harmonic balancer off. Spray it days in advance with PB-Blaster. The rest is just a normal job so maybe 3 hrs.

1985 sl280--follow up questions

I have the same model of car.

What do you get for gas mileage? I get 18mpg on a US gal. Seems low but it is a heavy car.

Have you ever adjusted your idle? I did it by turning a rather large screw located on a metal tube that extends forward off the motor on the right hand side as you look from the front of the car. Seems like the idle should adjust from the carb but can not locate such a screw there.

Thanks for any help

Dan

My 79 280sl stick gets about 20 no matter how hard I drive it, the 84 auto is still not running properly, injector seals are leaking and I think the WUR needs some attention, so I,m only getting 15-16 mpg out of that one. It's supposed to warm up this week so I'll take them out of hibernation and start working on them again.
