Cool ** The "Repair" So Far... **

Since the driver's side quarter panel (between the driver's door and the wheel well) got punched in, the mechanic working on the repair has a small issue with the fau-window. He wants to know the "secret" to removing the window and, hopefully, NOT break/crack that piece.

I thought, at one time, there was a posting that went through the process of removing this thing, but I seem to recall it was about also being able to clean up and repaint the fins in that assembly.

I just need to know the hows/wheres to poke the assemble so that it can come loose in one piece and not PIECES.

Anyone remember where/when/if that process was written up?

I appreciate any I/P from anyone out there!!!

The body shop called yesterday afternoon, so I had a chance to see where they were with the repair this morning...new 1/4 panel is welded in nicely and prepped for paint, the rear and front floor pans are going to be welded in and weather-proofed, we marked off which soft-goods I'll pay for and we reminded each other which go to the insurance company due to them having to be removed to effect the repair from the original claim...as tempting as it was to "dump" it on the guy's company, I wouldn't feel right about any of it if I pulled that stunt. Yah, I know...I'm being deprived of driving my car...but hey, I'm just happy to be able to drive it at all. Besides, padding a claim is just as bad as committing fraud, so why even chance it? As it is, the shop is keeping my car inside 24/7, so I'm getting better treatment than most folks. In about 2 weeks, I'll have her on the road again and running premium through her veins and heart...and enjoying every revolution of that engine...

Sorry Al!!!! I've been busier than a one-legged cat trying to bury scat on a frozen lake!

Yep...found two spots (driver's floor and driver's passenger side) that needed some metal insertion...once they finish up with that, then it's "interior time" and reinserting all the bench and panel parts. I'll see if I can get some shots of what's going on before the COB today...otherwise, it might be Monday...

Hey Al! Your ears must have been ringing! I dropped off the interior parts (seats/panels) at the shop this morning. They are working on the floor pans (driver's side/front & rear) and said that by this weekend, if all goes right, I should have her back on the road. The damage caused by the other guy has been taken care of a few weeks back and they were able to "re-shoot" the hood, doors and other pieces. The paint that was on the car appears to have been lacquer-based and that's where the "crazing" was occuring on the hood. I did get some shots, but I'll have to transfer them to work once I get them off-loaded at home.

As of yet, the tally is still out on how much the "dent" cost the insurance company...and I'm hoping my side of the work isn't more than $2K or so.

We'll see...

Marc

This has really gone on long enough. In my 20 years of ownership, no scratches, nothing, nada, bumpkis.

OK, maybe a little rust.

In your short tenure, you tried to barbeque it in a motel parking lot, tried to balance it on its muffler, and hit another car while standing still. Now you claim that it's being repaired.... forever.

If you don't post pictures showing that it still exists in something approaching drivable form, I'm reporting you to the moderators for banishment or worse, and initiating a lawsuit in replevin for return of the vehicle.....

I'm warning you,
Al

n.b. replevin, sometimes known as "claim and delivery," is a legal remedy for a person to recover goods unlawfully withheld from his or her possession, by means of a special form of legal process in which a court may require a defendant to return specific goods to the plaintiff at the outset of the action (i.e. before judgment). Frequently used to obtain return of a automobile fraudulently obtained by promising to restore it to its former glory.

I took shots of it but I can't post 'em here due to the fact that the shots are 2.5Mps or better.

I'm looking for a web site that will host the shots and when I'm able to drop 'em there, I'll let you know.

Outside of that, I called today to see if I'd be able to pick her up, but the "skins" for the inside weren't in any better shape than the ones coming off, so for some reason, they were waiting for me to call them (????) to let them know what to do, sooooo...I'll be getting the SLC back by mid/late next week.

One less week of summer driving...
