Ron,
Bosch now have a replacement pump and they told me number was 0 580 454 999. I have not yet seen this for sale here.

This is the link Bosch sent me:
http://www.automotive-tradition.de/en/teile/media/Produkt_Profil_EKP_0580464999_en.pdf

and this is from their German site:

http://www.automotive-tradition.com/de/teile/media/Produkt_Profil_EKP_0580464999_de.pdf

These links should both be for the 0 580 464 999 pump, but they bring up different documents with different order numbers!

Confused yet? All I know if that there should be a new D-Jet pump available.

I was able to buy a Bosch pump a year or so ago. I checked with Bosch Germany and they knew nothing about it. But they checked with Bosch USA and they said that it was a pump that they had sourced. I believe it is used on Nissan 280Zs and some other cars. I have it new in box still.
(more here http://www.benzworld.org/forums/3911049-post32.html )

Some have used cheap aftermarket pumps, but most of those lack the internal pressure relief that protects from having the rubber hose connectors blow off in a case when FPR or return line is blocked. (see drawing in this message: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/4693055-post5.html )

By the way, I have heard that many D-jet pumps make some noise - Filling the tank sometimes quietens mine down. I am still running on the original.

Lets know if you find anything.

I did a search and the Nissan pump comes up at Advance:

http://www.advanceautoparts.com/1/1/560003-electrical-fuel-pump-by-bosch-part-69612.html

That is the pump I bought, but have not tried. I suspect it is same as MB pump, but it would be interesting to ask Bosch for the specs (Flow/pressure/etc)

The Bosch USA site has a parts finder and says that part 69610 is the correct number for the Mercedes while 69612 is for the Nissan. I have asked Bosch Canada what the difference is, but no reply yet.

so I wonder , if we need about 28psi at the pump , why won't any pump capable of delivering that pressure due??

I think it has something to do with the internal pressure relief valve. There are 2 used ones on Ebay but almost the same price. $299.00 and $225.00.

You need a pump that will deliver 1 litre in 30sec when voltage is at least 11.5V and fuel pressure is 2 - 2.1bar (29 psig)

There are many pumps that might do that, but the ones for CIS engines can put out a lot more pressure - maybe 90 psig or more when dead headed.

As pointed out earlier, the D-jet pump has an internal relief valve that limits output pressure so that rubber hose connections (that CIS engines don't have) won't blow off (and perhaps cause a fire) if for some reason pump is dead headed.

You could probably buy a cheap Airtex or similar pump and keep it just as a spare to get you home. They are all small in diameter and need a rubber mounting sleeve.

Or you could look for a used MB or Nissan pump on eBay and again just carry it as a spare. Some other cars also use a similar pump - Citroen, Saab, ?? but we would have to double check specs.

Or you could pay ~$300 and get a new pump. (Mine cost me $500!). That is actually quite a good price for a brand name fuel pump.

The other spare that I don't have (but maybe should), is a fuel pump relay. It's hard to get at. I think if I ever get it out again, I will just install a pair of wires and a fuse holder so it can be easily jumpered if it fails.

The relay is, I THINK, the top one just in front of fuses. On mine it has some other stuff on top of it.

PS: I found I had taken some pictures when I removed mine.
