Power window issue

Hello all, i seemed to have tripped something in my 280sl. I was having the normal flasher issue. So i clicked the hazard switch back and forth to get the turn signals to work better. However, now the power windows don't work. Fuses look OK. This has a manual convertible top so i would assume there is no special window controls. Anyone have any ideas.

There is a known issue with the fuses. The aluminum fuse and the brass holder/clamp have a dissimilar metals corrosion problem. You may be able to fix things by twisting the fuses in their holders. This can be permanently fixed by replacing the fuses with ones that have brass ends. There is a long-term inexpensive fix where you put a small dab of terminal grease on the end of the fuse after buffing it a bit. This seals out air and moisture that promotes the corrosion.

You may need to reseat the connection plugs for the window switches by removing the ashtray, remove the two screws behind it, pull out the frame(right side first, then the left side with the plug for the lighter), Then the two screws on the now exposed tabs at the front end of the console piece. You then lift the front of the console trim up a little bit, and pull/ push it backward. This will clear the shift lever base and disengage the pin at the back. You can then pull the assembly up, and wiggle the connectors as needed.

Good luck,
Scott

Thanks Scott. I plan on replacing the fuses as you suggested. However, i thought each side has its own fuse. Is there some other part that would effect both sides at the same time? I believe both windows failed at the same time.

There is a 5 pin relay which controls the power windows, that could be bad. I dont know where it is on the R107 though.

Most of the relays on a 107 are located above the fuses. You need to remove the kick panel to access them.

Fixed!!

Thank you to everyone who posted suggestions. The "stars aligned today". The local MB dealer had a relay listed for my car which he could only say what it wasn't for. "It's not the fuel pump relay, so it must be the one you need". Luckily, he was right. I got it in and now both windows work again. I just wish it was easier getting that kick panel out.

Thanks again everyone.
