Wheels and Tyres

Hi Lads, how you doing
I currently have a set of 6 1/2" x 14" alloys with 205/70 HR14 tyres which are correct for my 1972 350. Now i know i read somewhere that these 107's came with either 5 1/2, 6 1/2 or 7 1/2" wheels as standard, so what would be the difference between the 5 1/2 and 6 1/2" wheels in regard of performance and safety. Also what would be the recommended tyre size for 5 1/2" wheels.
I'm asking cos i have the chance of a real nice set of steel 5 1/2" wheels that would be nice behind some polished and painted hubcaps i've been working on.
For some reason 6 1/2" wheels here are like rocking horse ****e, and when they do appear condition is always not good.
Good luck
Pete

Never heard of 5 1/2" wheels on a 107. 6 1/2" X 14 ET30 and 7" X 15 ET25 are the only ones I know of. The only ones in the owners manuals and the EPC.

Yeah it's looking that way alright, the numbers you have there are the same as i have, i was just sure i read somewhere on here that 5 1/2's had been used.
I did however find a reference on another site www.sl113.org stating that maybe on very early 71 cars 5 1/2" 113 alloy wheels were used and were indeed acceptable in competition MBCA.
If this were to be the case what effects on the car do you think this size wheels and tyre would create.
Hard to imagine getting excited over a set of steel wheels but when ya surounded by tractors and mud, it don't take much!!
Good luck
Pete
