Oh yes, a 190SL or a W113 would certainly be a steal for $800. If you know any at that price, please let me know. I'll get one of each

Sure you can part the car out. And you will have a few bits that might sell OK but most of it is stuff you will look at for a very long time waiting for that steady income stream.
Most people are looking for front fenders, side body mouldings, interior parts and maybe some lighting bits. No one is looking for M110 engine parts. All of this stuff is generally trash on a parts car which leads me to the easy conclusion that 107's make bad parts cars. The parts you could sell are usually junk and everything else moves slowly or not at all. If someone is restoring a 107 they buy new bits.

If you're in it to part the car out paying 800 bucks isn't a good idea. If you're in it to fix it up, it still isn't a good idea. This is the kind of car that won't make any money. OK, maybe I'd go as high as 500 but that's as high as I'd ever go. If it was a 190SL or a 113 it would be a steal.
Gotta agree with what you say. The only way it would be worth $800.00 is if you had another '83 280SL and wanted a parts car.

OK, I didn't really think of that but yes, if you have a similar car then it's worth picking up. Euro cars have certain parts that are only used on those models and this would be a handy source. Because it's a Euro car it also makes it less usefull in NA which is why it wouldn't be a great parts car for anything but another 107 280SL.

FYI, there is a 1983 280SL (5 Speed I presume according to the sign) very close to my house. They are asking $6900. It's black over tan with OK interior. I don't see any rust so it appears it is a car that sat has sat in a garage or was parked on a driveway for some time but it looks like a decent runner.
