As in it is stuck in first gear (automatic transmission)? Or as in it won't rev higher than say 1500 rpm?

Check the basics; Dwell, timing, cap/rotor, wires. Then go to fuel system, a fuel line or wire may have gotten damaged by someone tossing a strap or chain around to secure the car for transport. Check for vacuum leaks, and throttle linkage problems.
I always check the dwell & timing on a D-Jet first, because that's where I had the most problems, but your mileage may vary. I'm a little 'fixated' from my experiences, possibly. Scott

So we have a car that was 100% good in Florida and now no good in Massachusetts.
Was it driven all the way up there? Or was it transported? Has it been really wet in Massachusetts? => check fuel is actually fuel and not water contaminated I've never seen it over here but diesel owners on this forum talk about fungus in their fuel tanks - does this happen in petrol tanks too? Check fuel filters and tank strainer Check that the mechanic replaced the pump properly... I'm just thinking fuel based problems 'cos it is mentioned in your first post. It could be a wild goose chase. Recommend you get son to film it and post on youtube - you'll get more forum interest that way! You could always just take the car back to the mechanic and say "hey it don't work too good now"...
