wood dash

My 73 450 sl does not have a wood dash; I don't think it was an option. I'm thinking about putting one in. I've seen the dash kits advertised, and understand they essentially stick on the existing pieces. I can't imagine this comes out real good. I would think it would come out better if the wood pieces replaced the existing vinyl pieces. Does anyone have any experience with the replacement kits?
