thanks Graham, hope you are well!

I think they are the same the BMW/Volvo folks use and a kind lister here may have a pair.
BUT my new question of the day -
mine is a three bay reservoir, most parts places show a two bay with one electrical connection. Mine has two, one with a pig tail and not connected as mentioned earlier. Could she have had the 2 bay originally and now with a retrofitted 3 bay? Doubt it matters but curiosity has got the best of me
you guys with a 72/73 450 can you take a look and tell me what sit atop your master cylinder?

I would have checked my car for you, but it is stored for winter and I can't get the hood open.

I have read that there are several versions of the reservoir.

Good Luck with it.

when you get ready to yank out that reservoir, use a protective cover over everything close, don't want brake fluid drops to hit the paint

Ron, wrt your reservoir, the reservoir of a 72 350SL with M117 (4.5) engine is exactly the same as on my 3.5 coupe and has the double electrical connectors like you described. This is according to the EPC and also first hand observation from taking one of a M117 350SL at a local Pullapart. So I would assume that your '72 450SL probably has the same reservoir as the '72 4.5 350SL.

My '72 and '73 both have the same reservoir and the pigtailed sensor wiring. The reservoir on the '72 is cracked or I would send it to you.

so the back electrical connection is pigtailed to the front and then into the harness - correct?

Thanks all for the help. This "simple " project continues to grow haha

ok , update, got the resevior off, it was nasty , see why the electrical connections not an issue, no floats on either side, could not send signal if it had too, haha. right rear caliper off and found it to be dragging and obviously has had issues for awhile, I think I'll just replace . Was a good time to adjust parking brake , those looked like new and work now. I am pondering , since I have this torn down to remove steel like connections at master cylinder and blow the line out using compressed air , I am convinced they are full of dirty crud crap. I dont even want to try any more of the crappy fluid through the lines and into the new calipers than I have to. Any danger in that idea?

EPC is confusing, what part number is correct for rear calipers, this has ATE. Guess I could rebuild them , never have done that , and always have been a skeptic on if that is a good idea or not

BTW have a page on FB now, join the shack!

I can think of no good reason not to blow out the lines first. I'd even consider later pressure bleeding without attaching to the new calipres. Wasting an extra quart of brake fluid might be money well spent flushing out additional crud. Now you see why they recommend replacing the brake fluid every 2 years...

A member on another forum noted that the rebuild kit for his calipres was almost the same as the price for rebuilt calipres, so that's the way I'd go.

Don't you just love it when a simple job like replacing one hose turns into a complete system rebuild.
