I checked the price and these sell for $13.20 at the dealer (at least the one here in Atlanta).

The brake hose (126 428 01 35) for both sides is $40 each.

No need to go to classic center imho. Seems to be common parts.

thanks gang, here is the latest. Phil has the brake lines (flex) and the steel lines I am sourcing , ( this is the original set up) however I have a buddy here that owns a parts store , swears he has a flex line that will work, crossed the old MB number and his cross , then a cross again shows a male female line with a bubble end that supposedly takes the place of the flex /steel line arrangement. Suppose to be finding it for me today so who knows. In any respect closer and at least we have determined that the original lines are available

Jeez, I hope I dont have all these issues when I work up front. This 2 hour job has now gone into 2 weeks.

The bushings for the master cylinder reservoir seem to be part no 000 431 09 50, according to EPC. Price is $3.52 each. But EPC also shows 000 431 09 35 (as alternate?) which is also listed for my car's MC and it looks awfully similar to the SL type. This part is also still available for $5.80 from dealer (you need 2). Not sure what the correct ones are, but these were the ones listed.

Good luck,

Bert

000 431 09 35 is the correct one. 7MM ID. The other is 12MM ID.

Who me???
Hmm , well you may be right , but I am a happy mess when dealing with these ol cars, keeps me out a lot of trouble...
and funny you mention this, I was thinking the other night , why do I chase all these issues the hard way, why not just head to the dealer or call classic center and fix it.
I thought and thought... could not come up with a good reason other than it more fun this way, more of an adventure I guess. Coming up with solutions and finding "new" old parts is just part of the ownership of these ol gals

thanks for the link

Hey mp,

I went through this whole process on my 350SL last summer. In fact, I replaced all the lines only to have the calipers give up one at a time over the course of the next several weeks. You got lucky: I had to heat the bejesus out of the old flex lines to get them out of the the steel lines; to the point of blowing up one of the old lines.

I did have some problems getting everything to hook up to everything else when I was putting it all back together (maybe the rebuilt ATE's had male instead of female brake line connectors or vise-versa?? too many other problems since then...). Let me know if you need pics of what I ended up doing. But it sounds like you're doing pretty damn well on your own there.

Dammit... Did you put that temp in Celsius just to make it appear colder?

10 degrees Fahrenheit sounds warmer.
