No forward of reverse gears on 1996 sl600, car starts check engine, ESP and EPC lights on. Help please!

Do you know any history of this car?

For cars in general, even with a electrical failure the trans will still work in FWD and REV.

If you lost both directions, the problem may be drastically low fluid related or maybe even just a shift cable that came off. Will the car lock and hold in park and unlock park where it can be pushed?

First of all, I am assuming "No forward or reverse gears"

This happened to me recently, no forward or reverse, engine starts and runs fine, engine light on. I have a 2002 E430 with the 722.6xx electronic transmission. If that is what you have, then this is what my indy told me happened. "Burnt clutch, $2000" Don't despair, a used tranny can be had for half if you can find one. I live in Miami, FL and we have everything here but if you are going for a used one, I would advice to have your own tranny rebuilt, this way you know the numbers matched. From what I have read, the 722.6 comes in different variations. GL
