Engine Identification
Just finished the interior on a really nice 68 280SL. Runs supper but breaks up when it hits 3000 RPM in 2nd and 3rd gear. If I suck on the vaccum advance hose it advances but but drops right back to the non advanced position so I figure I need a new vacuum advance pot or a rebuilt distributor (whichever is cheaper). I need some help locating the engine model number as it seems there were a few different engine assemblies for this car.
Thanks, new to the forum. |

Found the answer!
I have a 110.992 NV low compression motor. Anyone know the correct plug gap?
I am running .032 but this is the spec for the US version. I am using NGK BP6ES |

Thanks
The chart I am using shows the vin on my car 107 042 10 003459 shows the engine to be a 110.992 NV*. I found this in two locations on two charts. NGK BP6ES with a plug gap of .032 but one sheet on found on motor specs lists a .024? I am loosing power under load at 3000 rpm and after minor testing I think I have a problem with the distributor advance but want to make sure I have the correct gap before I move ahead |

Oops. Not '68. The engine number on the M110 is stamped on top of the front left of the block below the cylinder head. I don't see the M110.992 for the '78 280SL on the EPC. |
