As far as your crazy start, disconnect the battery and fully charge it. DO NOT JUMP YOUR CAR ! If you jump it, get ready for a total wallet implosion . These cars are so sensitive to voltage spikes that jumping is an extremely risky thing to do. If you have access to a load tester, test the battery. If it's marginal, REPLACE it with a new MB battery. For the extra $ 50 bucks you'll do well to avoid the Wally World special.
I've repaired a few things as outlined above and am totally happy and impressed with the 600 SL. I do agree with Roncallo, if you can't write a fatty check, or do tons of research then turning a wrench these cars can be a handful. It's unfortunate that the lack of mechanics that can or will work on these. As they get older, the technology becomes old and unsupported. The dealers mechanics evolve and their training focused on the latest and greatest. This natural evolution leaves our 90's technological miracles hanging out There like bastard red headed step children.
The only thing that makes these Supercars feasible for us mere mortals is the collective knowledge found in this and other enthusiast websites and the members willingness to share and help. My V12 600SL is the finest most enjoyable car I've ever owned. A
