Rust in Blower motor compartment 380sl

I am in process of removing the blower motor assembly and the two screw toward the front of the car stripped out and / or broke off due to rust. I vacuumed out large flakes of rust when I first got the car, but did not investigate due to other pressing repairs. My blower motor was making noise and locked up, so I was going to replace the motor. I used penetrating oil on motor shaft and let it sit. I did free the motor where it works without noise but I will still replace the 30 year old motor. HERE IS THE ACTUAL QUESTION, is there a way to repair the bottom of the compartment if in fact it is rusted out? Does anyone have pics of what the compartment SHOULD LOOK LIKE when the blower assembly is out of the vehicle?
