Can't open soft top storage area: Please help

Hello,

I've seen similar posts, but none that solve my issue, so i'm hoping someone can help me.

My soft top is down—in the boot area. I wan to put it up and have cranked the handle to "pop" the storage area, but it will not "pop" open. When I push it down, I finally hear a loud sound, as if something is being released, and if I look in the center hole in the middle, I can see some sort of a metal thing move, but the storage area doesn't move at all, even if I pull on it.

Any help would be great!

thanks

Get a wire coat hanger

Straighten it out but make a hook at one end.
Open the trunk
Go to the gap around the right hinge
Put you wire through there
You object is to snag the bowden cable laying on the cavity floor
Move your wire til you snag it
Then pull back hard and the lid will open.
Good luck

It should work. Once it s open you will be able to adjust the cables so that it pops open with the lever. I always carry a hook in the trunk just in case.

once open look on the drivers side you will see a set screw and a cable, that is where the problem lies , that lets go and the cables dont do thier job.

Here's a pic of the area. You can see the bowden cable and the hinge area.

You want to "hook" the cable and pull it to release the latches.

Top Storage

HI. First does either side release?

The Drivers Side Left (looking from the back) Is released by moving the release lever. The right or passenger side is released by the movement of the cable as described above. Best done by two persons one holding the Release Lever then getting the wire with the hook to go through the opening by the Trunk hinge arm on the inner side. Make the hook a real U about 1/2 long Slide it in and turn it so it goes under the B cable turn it 90 degrees so the open part of the hook is up. Then give it a easy pull while your other person is holding the release lever. Remember with the top down it will be trickier.

When you get this open see if the length of the cable can be adjusted. If not you may have to thread a small spacer on it so you get more movement of the cable. When the top is up and out you can see all of this.

Good luck, Jack

This is all from EXPERIENCE.
