129 front bumper repair advice for friend

Have a guy at work who "hooked" the front bumper on his 92 SL500. I haven't seen it but said it got ripped up pretty good. He got the lip caught on a parking dog, he picked someone up and with the extra person in the car it was lower in the front so it was only a problem when he backed out, when he parked the front was higher.
He said there are no parts broken off or missing, has anyone had a cover repaired in a case like this?
Otherwise he is looking for a front cover if anyone knows of one for sale.
Gilly, (at least he has me to save labor costs if it needs to be replaced)

if all pieces are there then urethane supply co. sell a very nice repair kit - I used it to repair a JY bumper I picked for my W124.

Have a look on car-part.com , they are a online inventory for salvage yards across the US and Canada that subscribe to their inventory service. ( Hollander runs this ) I think 90 to 95 are the same, then 96 - 01. They are probably interchangable but it won't match the rear.

I need to do a similar repair to mine, it tore on the left corner. It was previously repaired with epoxy / fiberglass mat on the back but someone caught it and tore it again. ( before I bought the car )

The plastic used on these bumpers is more of a semi hard crackable plastic rather than rubber. I have not found what type of plastic is used.

Have a look at hot staples , one maker is " Motor Guard " MS-1-KIT Magna Stitcher Kit. This goes on a spot welder but you could rig up a battery charger / transformer to make your own. ( think hot wire saw )

Check out E-bay
1990 2002 Mercedes Benz SL R129 Duraflex AMG Style Front Bumper 103088 | eBay

This an aftermarket company that sells the covers quite reasonably and they claim that since the material they are made from is more flexable, they don't damage as easily. I don't have any experience with them, but it looks like they have sold quite a few. It'll still need painting by a body shop or pro painter.

Several posts on the BW 129 forum saying that they are crap and require LOTS of hours of fitting to work.

Yeah I did mention that type of service to him as well, or at least the possiblity that the bumper could possibly be repaired.
