Driving my 1983 280 SL
Hello all,
I was fortunate enough to actually drive my newer aquisition as my daily driver every day for 10 days while on vacation. It was a blast. The car performed better then I expected. Over the last few months I sorted out the tight steering, poor cold starting, wheel alignment and it's really paid off in drivability. That M110 euro engine is very impressive even with an auto trans. I had forgotter the joy of driving a high rev engined car. The kick down from 4th to 3rd at 40 mph and blast off to 80 put a smile on my face. One thing I discovered was the flow thru ventilation when you turn the fan knob a half click clockwise. I wonder why no new cars have that feature? A funny thing with the trans. When I first start and drive away the trans flares a bit thru the first few gear changes, but after warm up it's fine. I just had the trans fluid changed but it still flares when cold. Also, I love how it takes about 10 seconds to go from drive to reverse. Other then that, just a report from a happy MB camper. jz |
