economy and sport shift switch
On my 86 I have a switch by my gear shift selector that I can change from E to S possistion. In both settings I haven't noticed a real difference. Both bang pretty good unless I take my foot off the accelerator. Any wires or linkage I should look for? Thanks.

I'm surprised somebody hasn't asked for a picture yet. I didn't think the W107 had anything like an economy/sport switch. Maybe a picture of the switch will help somebody answer your question.

It's a Euro I guess as mine has one as have all the UK models.
In E (Economy) mode it should go straight into 2nd gear but in S (standard I think rather than sport) it should go into 1st gear first. I don't think it makes any/much difference to the engine speed on changing gear as least I've never noticed much, except on kick-down where I think it holds lower gear a bit longer. Hope this helps and I expect someone with more detailed knowledge will come along and correct me Cheers Jim

Oh! A picture might help
A bit blurred as I had to blow it up a lot to show the switch but you can see where mine is from the arrow: Jim

The 560SL also starts off in second gear. There is a switch to make it start off in first but not in the same place on the console. The owners manual describes using it for engine braking on steep downgrades. You shift down from D to 2 then push shifter to the right to activate the switch. It seems the indicator plate is the same on both models but the cover over it on the 560SL covers the E/S slot. Pictures are from a 1988 US 560SL. Thanks to Sokoloff.
