Transmission filter and pan gasket
Does anyone know where I can purchase the transmission filter and pan gasket for a 1981 280SL R107? I did locate 02 066 703 number on the passenger side of the transmission. Have been on internet over an hour and can not get close to finding one. I would like to change the transmission fluid and filter. Do I need to drain the torque conv. also? If so, how do I do that? The old transmission pan gasket is 11 years old and as I have stated before, the car sat for 8 or 10 years so it definitely needs to be changed.

same as 380sl
I put the one for a 84 380sl in mine. It was a match. Its available almost anywhere. Its the same transmission for the most part.
Edit yours is an 81 so the 81 280e may work. Your transmission should have a number starting with a 7 thats the one you want. I think its on the side just above the fluid pan.

Transmission filter and pan gasket
Chris:
Thank you. With your info, I have matched the filter and pan gasket and they are on the way. Another question for your expertise while I have you: What is the small match size box underneath the back seat cover of my 280sl r107? Is that a radio wiring or antenna type harness.? It has 6 or so wires coming out and when I try to get my power antenna to work, this box itself hums or whines in the back seat but the antenna will do nothing. This box is clear and looks like it has a small blue spool of thread inside it. Mice chewed the wires coming out but I do know that three wires coming out were previously to the antenna. Radio has to been turned on for the box to hum. That is the only other stupid question I can ask you for today and I do sincerely appreciate your help on this and other issues with this car. It is working me over, I work on this vehicle every single day. |
