1992 300sl airbag/steering wheel removal

how does the airbag come off to get to the steering wheel hardware?

There are ( 4 ? ) screws on the back of the steering wheel, I don remember if they are philips or torx. ( they face the dash )

electrical discharge

Its a good idea to unhook the battery, turn the light switch on to drain any electricity from the system. Also a grounding strap is a good idea. This is to ensure that no static electricity sets off the airbag. Also don't be in front of it when you remove the airbag. A piece of wire wrapped around a finger and grounded to the system will do.
