1987 560sl

A good friend of mine just bought a 1987 560SL and he told me that his running lights are not working. Now, I have a 1989 300SE and I pull out my light switch to turn on my amber lights. Would his running lights work the same way?

On my '79 450SL, you pull the light switch to turn on the fog lights. I believe the 560SL is the same. Running lights should be the first click, headlights second click.

I agree! I don't think there were too many changes between the 450/380/560 regarding their internal parts. Please correct me if I'm wrong! The dash (and many buttons) didn't change too much between 1971 and 1989 (excluding the climate control change in...I'm guessing here...1977-78, when they changed over to the Auto Climate Control-push button system).

I agree with sbr. I currently own a 1988 560SL and the light switch operates exactly as sbr describes. Hopefully the problem is only operater error.

UPDATE: When I told my buddy how my light switched worked, he tried to pull it out and...WALLA...his fog lights came on.

I introduced him to this sight and he's "eatin' it up" ...everyone here is so helpful!

Yet Another Update:

All interested...my buddy totalled his SL by driving it over a manhole which the city had not layed new road around yet! It dislocated the engine and trans.
