83 380SL Organ Donor (maybe).

My mostly restored 83 380SL was severely damaged by a recent hail storm. The hail was generally baseball to softball in size.

I describe the damage as "half of the windshield is lying on the dash, the rag-top is truly rags, and the body resembles the surface of a golf ball".

She gave her life protecting my wife and I, at the end of a children's parade in Abilene Texas.

I expect the insurance company to consider her totaled. If so, I am going to ask if I can allow her to be an organ donor for members of the forum. She was in good running condition, and the only things left for the restoration were cruise control repairs, parking brake repairs, and painting/some body repairs.

If you need, a part, send me a message with a price, I will add an estimated shipping and handling amount as needed and get back to you after I talk to the insurance adjuster. (I am not sure when the adjuster will be here, but it should be in the next few days.) NOTE: This is not an auction!! I will accept reasonable offers, and once accepted I will honor my side of the deal as best as I am able.

If the insurance adjuster says I cannot do this, then "Sorry, but she will have to go to the bone-yard." is the end of the story. I cannot go with an extended parting-out operation.

Sorry to hear about this.
If the insurance company totals and pays you the car becomes theirs. You sign title over to them. Sometimes they will allow you to buy it back for the amount a yard will pay. Does not sound like you really want to do this.

You are correct. The car was a pain in the A$$, but I was almost finished with it. I intended to raise the insured value two weeks ago, but didn't.

I figure if the insurance company wants it, they can haul it off. If they don't haul if off quickly, I will either take some parts or charge for rental space in my garage.

In reality, I probably won't get either.
