skipping 3rd???

What would make my tranny skip 3rd gear?

More details:

It's a 1983 500Sl and the tranny has just been rebuilt.

What it is doing is going from 55mph at 6k on the Tac to 2k when it shifts up, which leads me to believe that it is skipping 3rd.
