1981 280sl r107 euro not getting fuel supply

My car was idling in the garage a few days ago and just cut off. It will not start back. No fuel coming or squirting out gas supply line when I turn the engine. Took fuel pump off and ran jumper cables directly to it. Fuel pump runs when I do this. Is there a fuse that could have blown? When I turn the ignition key on, there is no hum or sound from the fuel pump. Am I correct that there is no power to the fuel pump with ignition key switched to on position. You have to turn the engine to get power to the fuel pump, correct? Could it be the fuel pump relay and how would I check that. Help!

Due to snow and ice this AM I don't have time to go through all the posts in this thread to find a specific answer to your problem, but here's more information than you ever wanted on the Pagoda fuel pump: http://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?action=search2

Pagoda? His is a 280SL 107 with CIS fuel injection.

There is a way to jump the relay but I don't remember which pins you have to jump. I think it is 30 and 87 but not real sure. I don't have a fuse diagram for your '81 model so I am not sure there is a fuse.

Sorry about the reference - I read 280 SL and went from there. I believe the ones built around '81 were wired directly from the ignition switch to the relay without a fuse.

RS, Sr.:

First, is there a safety switch mounted on the air metering unit?
If so, it will be mounted on the top of the unit, aft of the large air horn/metering plate, forward of the fuel distributor, and to right of center. It will have a single wire push-on connector. Pull off the connector, turn key to ON (not start). Does the pump run?

If there is no safety switch, then the type of fuel pump relay will need to be ascertained.

There is no safety switch on the '81 280SL. Fuel Pump Relay is 001 545 07 05 as of chassis 007870 (a couple of exceptions). If that is correct it should be in the relay panel above the fuses. Different from the normal "ice cube" relays. Google the PN for a picture.

Had a chance to check an '81 280SL chassis 008630. The fuel pump relay is the number I posted in the location stated. Upper left in the relay panel. Black plastic case and larger than the ice cubes.
